1. They both had a unique adventure in the Congo were they leaned a dark truth. They were both also deeply disturbed by the actions of the colonies.
2. When the slave trade ended, colonists turned to the ivory trade to bring back the income from this area. This increased the colonial presence in Africa which led to more profits for Europeans. Colonies needed to be presence in the area so they could get the greatest amount of good in the shortest amount of time.
3. Apocalypse highlighted the similarities between the colonial presence in Africa and the army. it showed that when there is an objective, that the individual with power will do whatever is easiest for them to achieve their objective.
